Control Study of Naikan-cognitive psychotherapy on Medical University Students with Internet Addiction Disorder

Objective To evaluate the effect of Naikan-cognitive psychotherapy on medical university students with Internet Addiction Disorder(IAD).Methods Students from one medical university were surveyed by using Diagnostic Questionnaire for Internet Addiction.According to the Diagnostic Questionnaire criterion,40 stuents got high scores.After clinical interview,15 students were diagnosed as IAD and taken as study group,other 25 students were taken as control group.All the students in both groups were received Naikan-cognitive psychotherapy,and were assessed with SCL-90,ABS,PSSS,SES,SCCS and AOS just before and after treatment.Results Most scores of SCL-90,ABS,PSSS,SES,SCCS and AOS had significant improvement(P0.01) after treatment in both groups,but there was no statistic difference between two groups.Conclusion Naikan-cognitive psychotherapy had significant effect on relieving IAD,but it was not a particular therapy for IAD.Naikan-cognitive psychotherapy was expected to has general effect on various kinds of psychological problem in adolescents.It could also improve psychological function in adolescents.
